35mm (Henry Thoreau)
35mm is a reminder to me why I write songs. From nostalgic Crofton coffee shop gigs, Annapolis street corners, the belly of Churchill’s Pub in Miami, and a venue of more than 500 in Accra, Ghana, these songs would mean nothing without the friends that inspire them and sing along. My high school choir was once given the task to privately down write something memorable about each member, and at the end of our time together, we each went home with a book of kind words from fellow classmates. I found this ten years later, and knew it deserved to be written about, and I hope you come to understand why.

Ghosts of Appalachia
Launching a career as a songwriter is “no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise,” to quote one of the greatest that ever did it. Ghosts is part self discovery in that vein, but also a larger reflection about where I live, close to civil war battlegrounds where families fought families, and a commitment to aim much higher than the standards of our bloody history.
