Ghosts of Appalachia
Calm me down as I look up into the face of what’s to come
I don’t like the way I’m feeling, my head’s reeling it’s enough
To make a man fear for his conscience
I’ve thrown caution to the wind and it’s gone
Like a friend on a jet in the sky when they’re set in their ways do or die
You can bet I’m learning how fly
I’ve been patient, studious, and pensive in these trying times
But all my virtues are wearing thin and again, I don’t know why
It might be the ghosts of Appalachia
The people you hurt come back and haunt ya
It’s enough to make a man fear for his conscience
I’ve thrown caution to the wind and it’s gone
Like a friend on a jet in the sky when they’re set in their ways do or die
You can bet I’m learning how to fly
All these patterns like concentric circles wrap around my head
I’ve been looking for the exit signs from the comfort of my bed
It’s not enough to want the life I’ve always dreaming of living out
This time it’s personal, I’m going toe to toe with my self doubt
I have no fear of being honest
I’ve thrown apathy to the wind and it’s gone
Like a friend on a jet in the sky when they’re set in their ways do or die
You can bet I’m learning how to fly
I’m learning how to die
